Dispensaries Lack Basic Medicines; Patients Complain of Overcharging

ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: A Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report on Wednesday said basic medical equipment and free medicines were not available in 145 dispensaries visited nationwide in October this year. The report said items indispensable for protection from germs and transmission of communicable diseases like sterilizers and syringe cutters were not available, nor were free medicines prescribed by doctors.

Increase in Prices of 22 Commodities/Services

ISLAMABAD, December 1: A Free and Fair Election Network report said Thursday prices of 22 commodities/services had increased by 8 percent in November 2011 compared to the prices in the preceding month. The report said fruits, cooked items, vegetables, milk and medical services registered an increase in prices while those of some rice varieties, sweeteners, firewood, spices and condiments went down by 4 percent.

ISLAMABAD, November 27: A Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report on Sunday said monitoring of 129 police stations from July to September 2011 this year across Pakistan showed misuse of authority and cases of graft denting public trust in police. The report said a large number of police stations were not providing services perhaps due to low, and in some cases, non-existent official oversight mechanisms.
