Low Attendance Observed in Relatively More Productive Third Sitting

ISLAMABAD, November 16, 2011: The National Assembly met for three hours during the third sitting of the ongoing 36th session. The sitting witnessed low attendance of Members, with 107 Members present at the outset and only 36 present when the sitting was adjourned.

ISLAMABAD, November 15, 2011: The National Assembly met for two hours and 28 minutes during the second sitting of the ongoing 36th session. The sitting was marked by low attendance of Members, with 76 present at the outset and 68 present at the end. The Quorum was visibly lacking at various stages of the sitting. However, it was not pointed out by any of the Legislators.

At least 32 vehicles snatched in each district during August

ISLAMABAD, November 15: On average, 32 FIRs of vehicle theft and snatching were registered in each of the 76 districts the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) monitored in August this year.

70% Schools without Security Guards, Peons and Sanitary Workers

ISLAMABAD, November 14: More than two-thirds of the 152 boys’ primary schools in 89 districts across Pakistan were without non-teaching staff like peons, sanitary workers and security guards, according to a monitoring report issued by Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) on Monday.

Prices of 26 commodities go down in October 2011

ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: A Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report on Saturday said compared to September prices of 26 commodities decreased, 19 went up and six remained unchanged in October this year. On average, prices of commodities like wheat, fruits, chicken, some pulses, medical tests and kitchen fuel went down by 5.4% while yoghurt, eggs,chapatti, beef, some pulses and rice varieties registered 8% increase.

Suspicious Voting, High Turnout in NA-203 Candidate Bagged 99% Votes

ISLAMABAD, November 4, 2011: Suspicious voting pattern at 14 polling stations and heavy police presence underlined the one-sided contest in NA-203 Shikarpur-cum-Sukkur-cum-Larkana (Old Shikarpur-II] as people of the constituency went to the polls at 47 polling stations necessitated by the judgment of an election tribunal in Sindh, reports the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Preliminary Observation Report.

Tehsil Level Hospitals Lack Diagnostic and Medical Services

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: Forty-six Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals (THQs) monitored in 34 districts nationwide in August 2011 were found to be lacking basic medical services, according to a report released by Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) on Wednesday. It said more than half – 57% - of them did not have pathology departments while 40% of the monitored THQs lacked pediatrics and 38% were without gynecology and obstetrics departments.

Debates on energy crisis, dengue fever, consume one-third of session time

ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Dominated by debates on power outages, dengue fever and increase in prices of petroleum products, almost half of the Members took part in the 35th session of the National Assembly, according to a preliminary report of Free and Fair Election Network on Wednesday.
