Gastrointestinal Infections and Scabies Widespread During May 2011

ISLAMABAD, August 21: More than 1.4 million cases of diseases, including widespread instances of gastrointestinal infections and scabies, were reported in 51 districts nationwide in May this year, according to a FAFEN monitoring report released on Sunday. The total number of gastrointestinal infections and scabies cases reported was 437,515 and 211,320 respectively, the highest recorded this year.

Murder tops the crime data in May 2011

The report collected the number of registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against 27 offences in 63 districts across country – 61 of them reported 790 murder cases. These also included 25 reported cases of ‘honour killings’ in 12 districts. On average, 13 murder cases were registered in each of the 61 districts in May this year.

Commodity Prices Show Mixed Trend in Ramazan

ISLAMABAD, August 17: A FAFEN report on Wednesday said prices of commodities have witnessed a mixed trend in the first half of Ramazan, with 26 items going up by 5% and 20 going down by 7% on monthly basis. Prices of 26 commodities including meat, rice, poultry, sweeteners and some kitchen fuel items registered an average increase of 5% while 20 commodities including apple, potato, tomato, some pulses and vegetable ghee registered an average decrease of 7% in Ramazan, compared to their prices on 10th July 2011.

A quarter of RHCs missing staff for treating diarrhea, malaria

25 Commodities Register 13% Price Increase in July 2011

ISLAMABAD, July 28, 2011: The prices of 25 commodities including poultry products, meat, vegetables, cooking oil, kitchen fuel and some pulses and fruits registered an average increase of 13% while 17 commodities registered an average decrease of 4%, which is too meager to offset the sharp increase in the price of important consumer items ahead of Ramazan, says FAFEN's Retail Price Monitor for the month of July 2011.

Murder and Crimes against Women Frequent in Urban Districts

ISLAMABAD, July 20, 2011: As many as 29,505 FIRs were registered in 55 districts monitored by FAFEN during April 2011. Serious crimes like murder and rape were frequently reported in urban districts of the country. The highest numbers of FIRs regarding murder (98) were registered in Karachi while the district of Lahore reported the highest number of rape cases (29).

Dispensaries Need More Medicines, Equipment

ISLAMABAD, July 3, 2011: Government needs to invest more in the state-run dispensaries, the first unit in the healthcare infrastructure, to enable them to effectively cope with the basic medical needs of the people. Investment in medicine supply, services, equipment and infrastructure is seriously warranted since government dispensaries observed by FAFEN in May 2011 showed a worrying lack of capacity to provide safe treatment to patients, according to the FAFEN Health Institution Monitor, released here on Sunday.

29,221 FIRs Registered in 50 Districts during March 2011

ISLAMABAD, June 27, 2011: As many as 29,221 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered in 50 districts monitored by FAFEN during March 2011. According to FAFEN’s collection of crime statistics in 50 districts of the country for the month of March 2011, nearly one fourth (23%) of FIRs were recorded in Lahore district of Punjab.
