Low Attendance Persists in Senate

ISLAMABAD, March 3, 2015: Starting 31 minutes behind the schedule, the third sitting of the Senate’s 111th session continued to witness low attendance of lawmakers on Tuesday, says Free and Fair Election Network.

Fifteen (14%) senators were present at the start of the sitting and 36 (35%) at the time of adjournment. The Leader of the House did not attend the sitting, while the Opposition Leader was present for two-thirds of the proceedings.

The Standing Committee on Law and Justice presented four reports on bills seeking amendments to the Constitution, while the Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile Industry presented its report for March 2012-2015 during the sitting. In addition, the first quarterly report for the of State Bank of Pakistan’s Central Board for the fiscal year 2014-15 was presented by the State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs
