ISLAMABAD, June 26, 2020: The National Assembly approved 167 Demands for Grants for the fiscal year 2020-21 related to various ministries and departments, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet on Friday.
Following are key observations of the proceedings during 15th sitting of the 22nd NA session:
Members’ Participation
- The House met for nine hours and 31 minutes; however, the proceedings remained suspended for two hours and five minutes due to prayers and casual breaks.
- The proceedings started at 1054 hours against the scheduled time of 1030 hours.
- The Speaker presided over the proceedings for five hours and six minutes, Deputy Speaker for 44 minutes while rest of the sitting was chaired by a member of Panel of Chairpersons.
- The Leaders of the House (Prime Minister) and the Opposition did not attend the sitting.
- A total of 21 lawmakers (6%) were present at the outset and 36 (11%) at the adjournment of the sitting. As per SOPs, 46 lawmakers of the government and 40 members of the opposition parties would attend each sitting during the ongoing budget session while the overall attendance to be marked at the main gate of the National Assembly.
- The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PML-N, MMAP and BAP attended the sitting.
- Five out of 10 minority lawmakers were also present during the proceedings.
Output
- The House approved 96 Demands for Grants worth Rs. 1,657,815,301,000 having no cut motions on them. It approved another 71 Demands for Grants while rejecting all cut motions on them.
- The remaining 29 Demands for Grants would be considered in the next sitting.
.Order and Institutionalization
- Five lawmakers spoke on points of order for 15 minutes.
- The House was adjourned to meet again on June 27, 2020 (Saturday) at 1100 hours.
Transparency
- ‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and public.
- Attendance of lawmakers was available to the media and observers.
