ISLAMABAD, August 30, 2017: The National Assembly adopted a supplementary resolution on Wednesday, rejecting the statements of US President and its Commander in Afghanistan about Pakistan’s efforts in war against terror, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.
Following are key observations of the proceedings during second and last sitting of the 45th session:
Members’ Participation
- The National Assembly met for five hours and 18 minutes.
- The sitting started at 1048 hours against the scheduled time of 1030 hours.
- The Speaker presided over the sitting for three hours and 20 minutes while a member of Panel of Chairpersons presided over rest of the proceedings. The Deputy Speaker was not present.
- The Leader of the House (Prime Minister) attended the sitting for 11 minutes.
- The Leader of the Opposition was present for three hours and 58 minutes.
- As many as 94 (27%) lawmakers were present at the outset and 58 (17%) at the adjournment of the sitting.
- The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, MQM, JI, ANP, NP, AMLP and APML attended the sitting.
- Seven minority lawmakers were present.
Output
- The House adopted a supplementary resolution rejecting the statements of American President Donald Trump and US Commander in Afghanistan John W. Nicholson regarding Pakistan’s efforts in war against terrorism. The resolution also condemned the US support for India in Afghanistan.
Representation and Responsiveness
- As many as 15 lawmakers took part in the discussion on the motion under Rule 259 regarding President Trump’s statement on US policy in Afghanistan.
- The House did not take up the Calling Attention Notices appearing on the agenda.
