ISLAMABAD, March 05, 2015: Starting 30 minutes behind the schedule, the 20th (last) sitting of the Sindh Assembly’s 18th session concluded without taking up any agenda item, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) on Thursday.
The sitting started 30 minutes behind the schedule with 71 lawmakers (42%) present at the start and 106 (63%) at the time of adjournment. The Leader of the House attended the sitting for 10 minutes, while the Opposition Leader was absent.
The House did not take up the Sindh Physiotherapy Council Bill 2014, the Sindh Pharmacy Council Bill 2014, the Sindh Nursing Council Bill 2014 and the Post-Graduate College of Medical Sciences Sindh Bill 2014 for reconsideration after receiving a message from the governor.
Following are some key observations of the assembly business:
Members’ Participation in the House Proceedings
- The Sindh Assembly met for fourteen minutes.
- The sitting started at 0930 hours against the scheduled time of 0900 hours.
- The sitting was entirely chaired by the Speaker. The Deputy Speaker was also present.
- The Leader of the House attended the sitting for 10 minutes, while the Opposition Leader was not present.
- 71 members (42%) were present at the start and 106 (63%) at the end of the sitting.
- The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, MQM and PML-F were present.
- Six minority members attended the sitting.
- No member applied for leave.
Output
- The House did not take up the Sindh Physiotherapy Council Bill 2014, the Sindh Pharmacy Council Bill 2014, the Sindh Nursing Council Bill 2014 and the Post-Graduate College of Medical Sciences Sindh Bill 2014 for reconsideration after receiving a message from the governor.
Representation and Responsiveness
- Questions related to the Local Government Department remained unaddressed.
- The House did not take up an MQM member’s adjournment motion regarding a clash between two tribes in Karampur.
Order and Institutionalization
- No point of order was raised during the sitting.
Transparency
- ‘Orders of the Day’ was available to members, observers and others.
