- Session Prorogued after completion of 100 mandatory working days
ISLAMABAD, May 29, 2017: The Punjab Assembly’s 29th session was prorogued on Monday after completing 100 mandatory working days of the fourth parliamentary year, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN).
The House also adopted a supplementary resolution to condemn Indian atrocities in the Occupied Kashmir.
Following are key observations of the proceedings during 7th and last sitting of 29th session:
Members’ Participation
- The Punjab Assembly met for an hour and 20 minutes.
- The sitting started at 1155 hours against the scheduled time 1100 hours.
- The Speaker presided over the entire sitting while the Deputy Speaker was not present.
- The Chief Minister did not attend the sitting.
- The Leader of the Opposition attended the entire sitting.
- Twenty-five (6%) lawmakers were present at the outset and 40 (11%) at the adjournment of the sitting.
- The parliamentary leaders of PTI and JI attended the sitting.
- Six minority members were present.
Output
- The House granted two-month extension to the Standing Committee on Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering for presentation of its report.
- Moved by the Leader of the Opposition, the House adopted a supplementary resolution condemning Indian atrocities in the Occupied Kashmir. Two lawmakers spoke on the subject for four minutes.
Representation and Responsiveness
- As many as 11 out of 24 Starred Questions were responded to by the government during Question Hour while six questions were disposed of due to the absence of movers. The lawmakers also asked 24 supplementary questions.
- The House did not discuss Annual Report of the Punjab Bait-ul-Maal for the year 2012.
Order and Institutionalization
- The lawmakers spoke on four Points of Order consuming six minutes of the proceedings.
