ISLAMABAD, December 24, 2021: The Senate discussed Sialkot incident on Friday and adopted a resolution to condemn it, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.
Following are key observations of the proceedings during the second sitting of 316th session:
Members’ Participation
- The Senate met for two hours and 33 minutes.
- The sitting started at the scheduled time of 10:30 am.
- The chairman presided over the sitting for an hour and 56 minutes while the remaining sitting was chaired by a member of panel of presiding officers.
- The deputy chairman was not present.
- The leader of the house attended the entire sitting.
- The leader of the opposition did not attend the sitting.
- The Prime Minister was not present.
- A newly elected PTI Senator took oath and signed roll.
- As many as 14 lawmakers (14%) were present at the outset and 22 (22%) at the adjournment of sitting.
- The parliamentary leaders of PML-N, NP, PML, ANP, PkMAP, JUI-F and JI attended the sitting.
- Two minority lawmaker were present.
Output
- The House adopted a resolution to condemn Sialkot incident which was tabled by the leader of the house.
Representation and Responsiveness
- Moved by the leader of the House, a motion was passed to suspend the question hour.
- Seventeen lawmakers participated in debate on an adjournment motion for two hours and 24 minutes and condemned the shameful act of violent mob attack against a Sri Lankan citizen.
Order and Institutionalization
- The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 03:00 pm.
