Senate: Two Bills Passed amid Low Attendance

ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2015: Seventh sitting of the Senate’s ongoing 118th session witnessed the passage of two bills amid low attendance of lawmakers on Tuesday, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN).

The sitting started at 1533 hours against the scheduled time of 1530 hours with 10 (9%) lawmakers present at the start and 38 (37%) at the time of adjournment. Two bills passed by the House included the Cantonments (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Tabled by Minister for Ports and Shipping, the House also adopted a resolution to express complete solidarity with religious minorities and protect their rights on the occasion of Minorities’ Day.

The House took up two Calling Attention notices (CANs) regarding supply of low voltage electricity in Swabi and difficulties being faced by the passengers travelling to India via Wagah border.
