Sindh Assembly Elects Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Minister

ISLAMABAD, May 30, 2013: The newly-elected 14th Sindh Assembly elected its Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Minister during the second sitting of the first session on Thursday. The sitting met for nine hours and 56 minutes with a break of an hour and 40 minutes.

The Speaker of the outgoing assembly presided over the sitting for two hours and 51 minutes while the newly elected Speaker of the present assembly chaired the proceedings for five hours and 16 minutes. A member of the Panel of Chairpersons also chaired the proceedings for nine minutes.

Three members of the ruling PPPP were elected as Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Chief Minister as they got 87, 86, and 86 votes respectively. The PMLN, MQM and PMLF fielded candidates for the offices of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Chief Minister. After the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Chief Minister, the session was prorogued.
